🔸I am a qualified English language teacher. To me Nelson Mandela's timeless words, which I believe in as a South African, are ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’
🔸When I teach, I create a warm and welcoming classroom environment, conducive to learning. I foster a positive relationship with all my students and encouraged them every step of the way. My classes range from mixed general conversation classes to more advanced levels of speaking English.
🔸As there are students with various learning needs and varied ages, I modify lessons for individual learners as well as groups based on their current skill set and needs. I personally do research, develop, write and execute individual class lesson plans to close knowledge gaps and help students achieve a higher performance. These plans are then put into a lesson format that is taught using PowerPoint.

🔸My classroom lessons provide instruction that meet the needs of all students. By doing this I help each student to achieve their greatest potential. All lessons are regularly accompanied by interactive lessons where the students have a chance to join in on hands-on activities. This helps facilitate the independence of learners. The lessons can vary from how various words and sentences can be arranged to complete a correct passage or dialogue to vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation and general discussions. I incorporate a variety of methodologies in the classroom that aim to boost the achievements of English Language Learners.
🔸I have a belief in teaching and learning in context where students have an opportunity to offer their opinions (orally or written) about various activities or issues using everyday life.
🔸By encouraging students to give simple reasons for their answers, it opens their way of thinking. I believe that everyone has a voice and an opinion that wants to be heard. It has been shown that this method can help students develop positive self-concepts. This method students find very exciting and it broadens their horizons.
🔸Classroom lessons vary from learning about metaphors, poetry, music and various other topics. This engaged students by using points of interest and topics they are familiar with As these topics do not form part of the curriculum, I always obtained the necessary permission to allow me to teach these as supplementary. There is always an interest as well as significant improvement in the overall scores of most students. By creating and fostering a trusting atmosphere the students feel comfortable and supported.
🔸My daily tasks also include monitoring student progress and performance by maintaining meticulous documentation and score systems for each student. When it comes to mid-term as well as final examinations, students are well prepared as they are taught from the beginning on what to expect. If need be, I work with families of students to help promote learning techniques.
🔸Being a hands on teacher I assist in drama workshops, spelling bees etc and also help take part in the coordinating of various school and teacher English camps. Every year I actively take part in the goodbye preparations for the final year students. I also assist students entering university or even the job market with CV’s, mock interviews, guidelines on what to wear and how to conduct themselves.
